This resource list was developed to supplement the Center for Congregations workshop Develop a Communication Strategy that Works, led by congregational communications leader Tim Peters. This workshop was January and October 2016. The Center’s mission is to strengthen Indiana congregations by helping them find and use the best resources to address their challenges and opportunities. Mancini, Will. Church Unique: How Missional Leaders Cast Vision, Capture Culture, and Create Movement. Hoboken, NJ: Jossey-Bass, 2008.
Mancini believes that all churches need not be megachurches. The author, who has worked alongside Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans and others, helps leaders focus on their own unique cultures and congregational fingerprints. Once churches grasp that they are one-of-a kind, they can then unleash their full potential, Mancini writes.

Morgan, John Michael. Brand Against the Machine: How to Build Your Brand, Cut Through the Marketing Noise, and Stand Out from the Competition. Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012.
Morgan calls into question modern marketing and branding tactics and proposes a different way of understanding this world by creating a brand and identity based on unique personality. This book is a rapid-fire set of principles and ideas designed to help develop a unique brand identity. While not specifically for the congregational world, many of the concepts will help with crafting an identity for your messaging in your congregation.

This site contains a number of free resources including digital books, training videos and podcast interviews that touch on marketing, staffing, creativity, communications and technology in congregational life. Tim Peters, a church leader and entrepreneur, has compiled information from his extensive experience and has made it available for free.

Pro Church Tools. Accessed December 17, 2015. http://prochurchtools.com/blog/. Pro Church Tools provides training and information for using digital media in congregational life. Topics include designing graphics and videos, website improvement, branding, social media and more. This information is available through blogs, videos, podcasts and a twice yearly academy. This is a helpful ongoing resource to keep up to date on current thought and trends in using digital media in congregational life.

“Vision Room: Clearly Thinking Ahead.” Auxano. Accessed December 17, 2015. http://visionroom.com/. Based on the principles found in Church Unique, Will Mancini created a website with processes and information to help craft a clear vision for your congregation. Not only does the website contain information on the Vision Pathway, but there are also blogs from experts on leadership, communication, process, environments and culture. Full of practical wisdom and insight, this is a helpful site for a congregation seeking to clarify vision and develop strength in these topic areas.
