St. Boniface Church by Ann Nagy
Within this digital illustration, Nagy transformed the church image to reflect the ability of quilters to turn ordinary cloth into an heirloom of lasting beauty. Remnants of quilting techniques such as hand stitching, appliqué, border fringe and embroidery all make their presence known within. St. Boniface Church on Wabash Avenue in Evansville, a landmark of the city’s west side, was established in 1881. Since 1940, the Quilting Ministry at St. Boniface has carried on a tradition of fellowship and ministry through stitching. While there is a current resurgence of interest in quilting, hand-quilting has become a dying art – an art form that members of St. Boniface Quilting Ministry are committed to carrying on. Through their ministry, the art supports the church in the form of proceeds from those sold at the annual Summer Social and Fall Quilt Raffle. Seven members presently offer their talents as part of the Ministry and meet once weekly to collaborate.
