Recipes are wonderful things (and the delicious treats they represent)! So are assembly instructions and driving directions. It gives us courage to engage and to try when we know that we can expect basically the same results over and over again.
In addition to the text and training resources available for cultivating congregational health, I appreciate reading the occasional studies performed to explore common factors in healthy, vibrant congregations. One such recent study was performed by the third largest denomination in the nation, the United Methodist Church (UMC). There are four common characteristics within the vibrant UMC congregations which have growing membership:
