A Decade of Change in American Congregations: FACT 2010 Survey Results

Blog Category:

FCTFaith Communities Today is an ongoing series of research surveys that explore congregational life in America.  Surveys conducted in 2000, 2005, 2008 and 2010 enable information about U.S. congregations to be tracked over time.   Recently a report of the 2010 survey findings were released.   These findings are organized in the following categories:

  • Innovative worship
  • Religion Goes Electronic
  • Racial/Ethnic Congregations
  • Member-oriented and Mission-oriented Programming
  • Financial Health
  • Congregational Conflict
  • Demographic Details
  • Interfaith Engagement
  • The Electoral Process
  • Church Attendance
  • Spiritual Vitality

In summary, David A. Roozen, director of the Cooperative Congregations Studies Partnership, says “Overall, this report says they [congregations] continue to be key players in society, but they need to be more intentional in their worship and response to conflict, and open to technological innovation and the increasing diversity of American society.”

In addition to surveying congregations, interpreting and communicating the results, the Cooperative Congregations Partnership (CCSP) that conducts the survey,  produces resources that congregations can use to address areas of interest related to the survey’s findings.   To explore the results of the 2010 survey visit www.faithcommunitiestoday.org.
